Maria João Rey Dias Silva (Maria Rey). Completed her Master's in Forensic Sciences in 2021 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, and a degree in Biology in 2018 from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto. Currently pursuing a PhD in Chemistry with a focus on developing and characterizing novel biomaterials for the footwear industry, aiming to foster a circular economy. Her research integrates chemistry, materials science, and biology to create eco-friendly products, emphasizing innovation and sustainability in the footwear sector.
During her academic career, Maria contributed to the "Greenshoes 4.0" research grant, exploring in vitro tests for ethical and cost-effective solutions. She conducted her Master's thesis on the chemical characterization of sweat compounds for criminal investigation at the Chemistry Research Center of the University of Porto (CIQUP). Additionally, she gained practical experience through an internship at the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR), studying the effects of emerging pollutants on model invertebrates.
