Degree: Master
Bio
I am Artur Filipe Moreno Farinha. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Physics in 2019 and my Master's degree in Chemistry in 2022, both from Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Chemistry under the supervision of Doctor José C. S. Costa and Professor Luís M. N. B. F. Santos. I have published three articles in scientific journals and received the Best Poster Award at the 7th International Conference on Ionic Liquid-Based Materials (ILMAT 2023).
My MSc dissertation was titled "Deposition of Thin Films of Ionic Liquids in Confined Spaces," and my PhD project is titled "Incorporation of Ionic Liquids in Perovskite Solar Cells." My main area of expertise is the deposition of thin films by vapor deposition methodology, particularly thin films of organic semiconductors and of ionic liquids.
During my MSc project at CIQUP, I developed expertise in the deposition of thin films of ionic liquids, their surface dynamics, interaction with different substrates, wettability behaviors, and preferential location within the structures on the substrate surface. I worked with various techniques, including vapor deposition by thermal evaporation, sputtering, UV-Vis spectroscopy, SEM and optical microscopy imaging, and X-ray crystallography.
Currently, in my PhD project at CIQUP, I am developing perovskite solar cells obtained by chemical vapor deposition. My work focuses on producing exceptionally pure and crystalline perovskite thin films and enhancing their interface with the charge transport layer, including the introduction of ionic liquids for surface passivation. In addition to the techniques I previously employed, I am measuring I-V curves of multi-layer systems of thin films, including perovskite solar cells. I am also characterizing thermodynamically different compounds associated with my work through DSC and Knudsen effusion methodology.
